The Concepts of Creation

Meaning
God is the sovereign Creator of all the universe. During creation, God fashioned and created the heavens and the earth, and God fashioned man and woman after His own image. Humanity was created with a body, soul and spirit, which allowed for a relationship with God. God created all things good and He claims ownership over all of creation. Humanity too is owned by God. However, God relinquishes the earth to humanity as a free gift, while binding Himself to all of creation. This means humanity, which is fashioned and owned by God has freedom within limits.

This also means humanity’s most important relationship, is our relationship with God, through our faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. Moreover, humanity which is fashioned in the image of God is the crown of God’s creation and has four basic responsibilities on the earth. These responsibilities include replenishing the earth, subduing the earth, tilling and keeping the earth and to exercise godly dominion over the earth. In addition, because of these basic responsibilities and the fact that only humanity was created in the image of God, with a body, soul and spirit, which gives us the ability to have a relationship with God. Humanity is above the rest of creation and has been called by God to exercise godly stewardship over the rest of His creation. These are the basic Biblical concepts of creation.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Genesis 1:1-5)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (Gospel of John 1:1-3, 14)
