Bible Vocabulary

City of Chaos, Cities of Chaos (Cities Which Follow the World)

Meaning
The term “City if Chaos” is a seldom used term in the Bible. However, it is a common theme throughout the Old and New Testament. And it refers to people who have rebelled against God. The phrase “City if Chaos” is an idiom referring to a city where no people of God dwell. A city where no one who loves the Lord can be found. Cities like Sodom and Gomorrah where there is no one left who loves the Lord and follows God. Therefore, like Sodom and Gomorrah such a city will be destroyed by God in the judgment. It will help us to understand this term better if we view it in light of what the Apostle Paul told us in his letter to the Ephesian church.

The Apostle Paul tells all Christians that Satan is “the prince of the power of the air.” This means that we are to remember Satan is the initiator and sustainer of the attitudes of this world. In other words, Satan is the force behind the world’s philosophies, psychologies, social trends and social movements. And the term “City if Chaos” refers to a city that has completely given themselves over to this dark world. A city where the people only follow the ways of the world. A place where no godly people are left, therefore it is a city completely under the influence of Satan and the world system.

“The city of confusion is broken down; Every house is shut up, so that none may go in.” (Book of Isaiah 24:10)
