Bible Word of the Day
Archangel (Chief or Highest Level of Angel)
Meaning
Archangels are one of the many classes of angels created by God. All angels, including Satan and demons are created beings, all having been created by God. Archangel means “chief or first angel.” And in the hierarchy of angels, they are among the highest and strongest of the angels. Two of the most well-known Archangels are Michael and Gabriel. Michael is often referred to as “Michael the Archangel” and he is God’s warrior. Michael is the one who battles Satan and the strongest demons. Michael is also the protector and defender of the nation of Israel. Gabriel who’s called just by his name is God’s direct messenger. He delivers important messages directly from God to those whom God chooses.
And many times, those messages can reveal mysteries such as God’s message to Mary regarding the incarnation of Christ Jesus our Lord. Moreover Archangels are present during some of the most important times of human history and major events of God such as the birth of Jesus. Thessalonians 4:16 tells us, at the time of the Rapture an Archangel will be involved. “For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” However, as majestic as angels are, we have to remember they are created beings like us and their primary role is as God’s messengers and servants carrying out the will of God. Angels are not to be worshiped of revered, rather they are fellow workman in the spread of the Gospel of Christ, and in the kingdom of God.
“But the prince [fallen angel] of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes [archangel], came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.” (Book of Daniel 10:13)
“Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you.'” (Book of Judge 1:9)
“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Book of Revelation 12:7-9)
